A geodesic dome

Post by Gaieus » Sat Dec 05, 2009 2:33 pm

Nothing special actually - I was helping (or at least trying to) someone over the SU Help Forums and this is a "side product" of the topic.
Architectural warped glass and "fast" copper frame with a hemispherical background (thus the very careful positioning of the dome - you can't see there's nothing "underneath") ;)

Cool model Csaba! :^:
Is is a project or just for fun?

Background a bit unsharp though.

As I wrote, it is a "side product" of a SU HelpForum topic. ;)

And yeah, the background is a bit blurry - due to the (relatively) low resolution - just some 5+ megapixel crosswise (about 8 would be sufficient for most rendering).

Probably irregular, Pilou. It is not my model (if you follow the link) and only set the two materials and hit the render button. The shape (and that it has these many faces reflecting environment from many directions) makes it cool with a background image only. Nothing really special in fact.

I understand that these domes are generated with a combination of pentagons and hexagons, just like a soccer ball, and that's why when triangulating those shapes it seems to be irregular.
