How to fake fire flames
Re: How to fake fire flames
I don't know what the pot material is, but I suspect it's just a light leak. You are using the lowest setting, so light leaks are certainly possible.
Re: How to fake fire flames
i figured where the light is coming from (not a leak). Its sky brightness. this seems strange to me, i would think if the sun is disabled that the sky should be disabled, and why does the preliminary render (no preset)not take the sky into consideration?
is this how things should work?

Re: How to fake fire flames
"no preset" is more of a bug than anything. But yes, that's exactly how it's supposed to be. With no preset, the sky doesn't contribute lighting. You can disable to sky by setting the background color to black, as I said before.
Re: How to fake fire flames
ok, thanks. the point light was way too bright in the original file for me to see the effect properly. now that i changed it to .1 everything makes a lot more sense
Re: How to fake fire flames
If we linked turning off the sun with turning off the sky, we'd get a lot of complaints and problems from everyone, I'm afraid,
so it takes some getting used, to , but if you want to disable sky light, must set sky to use 'background color' and pure black... it's 2 extra clicks, but becomes 2nd nature after a few tries.

Re: How to fake fire flames
i wonder if a Sky enabled checkbox wouldn't be in order, just like the Sunlight enabled one? that way we wouldn't have to try and remember the backgrounds color, it could be just switched off.
ps could be more clicks if your background isn't already set to Background Color .
