this can be a very cool work of art!!!

from a compositional standpoint (sorry, I taught a year of first year arch. design at uni)

this is just my opinion... perhaps I'm wrong, take it with a grain of salt!
It lacks a good focal point of interest, so that the eye wanders but finds no rest. A balance between dynamic and static is a good goal.

use of gestalt (having one of the spots appear as a negative void formed by the other solid "spots"), or a simple surprising change of color on one particular object (I'll call them floating "spots") may be the ticket.

Lighting seems harsh to me as well...
