we need to put together a cool material preview scene for Twilight, and I am afraid that SketchUp's native UV mapping tools will not allow us to do so... it may be a Wings/SU exercise I'm afraid...

This is inspiring! Wings3D is quite fun.

When working in Zbrush or Wings for my first time I had nothing specific to build, so felt a bit like standing on the edge of an ocean and not sure where to swim... :totgm:

thanks guys.

fun to make and very very easy. you should see how fast smoothing is in wings.....just click S on your keyboard...wow!! I started off with one of their default shapes and extruded/scaled/smoothed/inflated some faces. but be careful you dont smooth it too much or it wont import into sketchup. there are a couple of small tutorials on how to use wings...like i say its very very easy.

I wish you could paint textures in sketchup (like zbrush). projection is just not enough any more. I dont know how to texture in wings yet but apparently its straight foraward.

here's a close up of the original render, bit noisy but who cares!

UV mapping in wings is pretty easy. There are a variety of "auto" modes, and the manual UV editor is pretty easy to work with. I think if SU had something similar that would be awesome.

Looks very cool!

Funny I have made something similar in the past with Zbrush :D
(it's not 3D, only 2.5 D) interest? : you make that in 20 seconds! ;)
So possibility to explore infinite visual results in no time!
That you can't make in real 3D+rendering ;)
