Twilight Render 2.15.1

Post by Chris » Tue Jan 12, 2021 3:46 pm

We are proud to announce the release of Twilight Render 2.15! In this release you will find a whole new post-production pipeline with new options, better performance, and better results!

Post-Process: Fixes and Filmic and ACES Tone Mapping Added
Filmic Tonemapping provides a color mapping curve that is similar to the way real cameras behave. It is capable of providing much richer results for interior with better contrast. ACES is like an "automatic" Filmic tone mapping that can really deliver great results with very little effort. Just set it to ACES and adjust the exposure and gamma to suit your taste..

Use "Highlight Compression" when you need to increase exposure to the point of your highlights going to pure white, and use the compression to reduce just those brightest parts.

Depending on which algorithm you choose you will be able to choose different settings, but all of them utilize the two main Exposure and Gamma settings.

Finally, have you ever noticed banding in smooth gradient areas on your image? We have been able to virtually eliminate banding by correcting some longstanding algorithm problems.

Multi-threading for post-processing
We've enabled multi-threading for the post-processing pipeline. While you might not see a huge improvement in render speed, you will see that post-processing changes are more responsive.

Improvements to the FastForward Denoiser in offline mode
This release also includes major improvements to how the Denoiser works in offline or "capture" mode. Denoising is just done one time; once it's done you won't have to do it again for any further post-pro refinements.

Exploration Render improved!
We have discovered and fixed an issue with the Exploration Renderer, and you should now find stability in ER mode much improved.

We will be updating our tutorials to reflect all the changes. In the meantime, you can find the latest version, as always, on our website!
