Infamous Stairs N.P.R.

Have been modeling my spin on a staircase that gained a certain amount of fame in the 1970’s. Prompting from forum member ntxdave I’ve done some N.P.R. images of the model.
Process has involved running a render, saving a raw SU view , running copies of images through “PhotoSketcher” and or “Topaz Impression”. Bringing everything into Affinity Photo and going to town with the post processing. Probably continue the experimenting, it’s good practice. :hat:

Interesting results IMO. :rspkt:

I am curious about which software was used for each of the images and what they looked like before you used Affinity Photo. I am enjoying this and looking at what you are doing as a learning process as well. :whoot:

ntxdave, Here’s a series of screenshots of how I did things in Affinity for the first image I posted. Didn’t take a whole lot for that one. Marked them up so you hopefully understand the process… When all the layers are turned on in Affinity you end up with the image as posted. :hat:

Thanks for sharing sir. :hat:

Again, just curious (seems to be a constant theme with me lately) if you saw the FotoSketcher tutorial I linked to I one of the other threads. It seems that turning an image into a painting is a little more straight forward with that software but then again I have actually not done it. :!

ntxdave, I’ve never looked at “Fotosketcher” tutorials as I can’t run it on my Mac. The developer introduced a supposed Mac version but you had to run it through another software called “Wine”. Never was able to figure it out. Just for the info here’s a list of the various Mac friendly softwares I’ve experimented with to get a hand drawn or painted effect on my SU/Twilight work -

Sketcher, PhotoSketcher, Topaz Impression, Corel Painter Essentials5

Have to say from my personal experience and what I’ve seen of the SU N.P.R. work of others most of the it involves the creative layering of multiple images. The extent one goes to is dependent on the result your trying to achieve. It may seem very time consuming but when you get the hang of things good results can be achieved pretty darn fast.
All that said I would have liked to been able to try Fotosketcher as it looks to be very good. My personal feeling is I don’t think there’s a software that would be “push the button” and there you have a perfect rendition of a type of artwork when your feeding it computer generated images. I suspect the results might be somewhat different when you’re working with actual photographs. But I could be wrong about that… wouldn’t be the first time.

Sorry, didn’t know you were running on a Mac. I need to back off. I think I am becoming obsessed.

Your work looks good to me and yes, I agree that one program will probably not produce true artwork. I was just impressed with what I saw in the tutorial and was hoping someone could show me an actual result.

ntxdave, no worries…. I’ve always wanted to try out Fotosketcher myself. The images on their website are very impressive. That said and being a little :totgm: suspicious minded I always wonder how much post processing if any has been done… Don’t worry about “obsessing” there could be worse things to be doing, just call it strong desire to learn :^: Bye the way if you’d like me to post up the process I did on the second image just say so.

Figured I’d share this image also. Sort of a special request, slightly diverted from the original ideas…
