Does Twilight support 2D alpha images and clip maps? If so, how to go about it?

it just automatically renders .png files using the alpha channel.
if you import a .png with an alpha channel, you can leave it as an imported image, or you can explode it. If you have Twilgiht Pro 2, you can explode and edit the material. this is not necessary.

These are jpeg cut-outs that need clip mapping to remove the white background.

Also, is it possible to import my own materials into Twilight?

In order to load your alpha channel to a material that has "Color" channel driven by a .jpg then you need Twilight Render Pro. Then use Deep Material Editor and load the alpha.jpg into the alpha channel in the material.

In Hobby version of Twilight Render, to use .jpg with an alpha.jpg companion image you will want to convert it to a .png pre-loaded with the alpha in some photo editor software and load that .png into your material in SketchUp.

To use "your own materials" - it is not clear what you mean by this? In SketchUp, you load any texture into a material. Then with Twilight Render you choose the Twilight Materials eyedropper and apply any material template you wish to apply. So, yes... use any of your own materials.
