Environment not working

Post by humanunhuman » Mon Jul 24, 2023 10:46 am

Hi,

I have been rendering some images and the HDRI environment image has been working perfectly fine, providing light just like it should. I had it cooking over night and this morning I just wanted to change the camera view and set up another render. However, the background has just gone completely black. No background image is working and no other setting for environment either. All is just black. I have tried various different images, HDRI, jpeg, just a colour, sun enabled, etc, etc...

I would be much appreciated with any help here!

Many thanks.

I posted this yesterday Background Problem because I suddenly had the same kind of problem. I have used TR for several years and have never seen this happen before. I am not aware of any updates to either TR or SU so I ruled that out.

Yeah very similar. The only thing different for me is that it is always black, no other colour.

And same, I have been using Twilight for years and never had this issue before.

I just tried again and still the same problem. I am using version2.17.12. What version are you using?

I think Chris is looking into the issue.....................

The black is curious though. What to you have set as your default back face color in SU?

I am a little surprised that we have not heard anything back from Chris.

OK - I think I have figured out the problem. It is the camera setting. In the image below, you will notice:
  • In the top screen captures, you will notice that the camera setting is Parallel resulting in it ignoring the Spearical Sky setting and rendering the image with a black background.
  • In the bottom screen captures, you will notice that the camera setting is Perspective resulting in it applying the Sperical Sky setting and rendering the image with the HDRI background.

Little surprised I have gotten no comments/feedback here or in this thread.

Is the way it is supposed to work? I did not think it was that way in the past.

Thank you so much for your time regarding this. However, it does not seem to be the solution.

What I have managed to figure out is that if I untag one of the areas (I am rendering a shopping mall with different shops), the background is working fine. When I make the tag visible, the background stop working.

Interesting. :!

I did not have any tags in the model I used for the test I did. Still seems to insinuate there is something wrong. :!

I hope Chris or Fletch respond with an answer.
