small office building

Post by Pg09 » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:04 pm

hey everybody!

here is a render i did just for practicing...
[the design is not mine but feel free to comment on that too]

the plants are from Solo's Garden and the 3dW.

in the foreground i was experimenting with a grunge/gravel/dirt floor but it ended up looking like
grass pavers - well maybe only i can see it in that... - well a flat one maybe :)
all the yard is gonna be used as drive way/parking so i didn't wanna copy in real (long grass)

I modeled the standing seam on the roof, but its pretty hard to see - maybe i should make it a little darker?

i did all the PP (for the first time) i read about here in the forum - thanks!

After seeing on YouTube what happened to Santiago de Chile Airport's curtain walls, I think such huge windows might be a bad idea if the design is for a seismically active zone. :?

It should be fine if built in the States, E. We have MUCH higher quality control. ;)

Miguel i really think this is not an above average size glass wall. We are far from US building standards but it still should be ok.
Still i guess there is no harm in asking the manufacturer about earthquake safety.

By the way I think Chile did really well in this earthquake especially if we think about it how huge the affected area and number of people was.
They really did their homework in the last 20 years regarding regulation, minimum code and building standards and that's why they were able to "easily"
survive the impact of this tragedy. I think they showed us that there is hope even for the most dangerous areas in the world.

Fletch I'm not sure what you meant but Trinidad is not part of the US - unfortunately.... :D

I am not familiar with building standards of your area, but presume they are better than in Haiti  (I worked on a project in Haiti and am very familiar with their lack of any standards.)

:D I'm just thinking of some of the larger glass projects I've worked on.

one project I worked on for two years.

another project I worked on for two years.

that's a lot of glass. no worries. ;)

Ooooh I think I´ve seen that before!!!
Some say there are no stupid questions. I'm in the habit of proving those people wrong.

well, as I know the building intimately that was the only part of that movie that really let me down... it really looks nothing like the real thing.
I have the means to create an accurate SU model of the building... just need to do it some day.
I've wanted to do it both for Google Earth, and to share here for rendering... just have too many projects all at once.

Can someone please point me to a tutorial about how to crop in new backgrounds into my render?
I have the alpha mask render, but i have problems correctly selecting it so i get white spots around fine details like the palm leaves in the render above...

thanks in advance!
