Sports Bar
Sports Bar
Here is a project I did many months ago that I meant to put up on the forum. This was meant for a casino, but the project got canned by the client. C&C are welcomed as always.

Re: Sports Bar
Too bad it got cancelled mate, hope you still got paid
C&C:
The sports-paraphernalia is very nicely done, not too much but enough to give it a sportsbar atmosphere (love the faceguard lamps btw )
Screens very nicely done, looks convincing!
Are the spotlights supposed to be off? Because the part that would be brightly lit if they were on is very grey and the lighting in is extremely even (except close to the walls).
The bar could do with some entourage. Bowls of beernuts, couple of glasses, maybe some hanging lights over it. Same goes for the tables, napkinholders and stuff like that give it a more genuine and inviting feel.
I would've added some people (or 2d ghosts) to crowd the place up a little, although that does depend on the brief of course.
The whole image is very very brown, and the vertical wood makes it hard to get a good scope on the dimensions. A little variation in floor- or wallmaterials, or maybe elements that obscure them here and there would've made it easier to interpret the shape of the room.
The furniture (to me) is way too neat. Every table has its chairs perfectly aligned and the stools around the bar are exactly 90 degrees to the bar and spaced evenly.
Pool table texture.
Hope that helps.
To be clear btw, I'm not sure I could do an interior this well

Some say there are no stupid questions. I'm in the habit of proving those people wrong.

Re: Sports Bar
Thanks for the C&C guys I do appreciate it. I will have to do a check on the track lighting levels. It has been way too long since I did this project to remember how well they were working in the space power level wise that caused me to settle with what's in the image. There are actually a series of can lights over the bar but some small pendents might look nice. I will have to investigate. I agree I need to change the pool table texture if not the entire model with another one. Finish wise, I was at the mercy of my client.
Me: "What color do you want the wood panel walls?"
Client: "Dark brown."
Me: "And the floor?"
Client: "A lighter brown."
Me: "What about the paint grade area above at light fixture level?"
Client: "Dark brown."
I totally agree that because of all the dark brown, you lose some of the form and depth. Flipya, I like your idea of "dirtying" it up a bit with shifting the chairs and glasses and peanut bowls here and there. When I did this project I didn't have a lot of time to do it so I had to cut that stuff out. I unfortunately did not have a Formfonts account at that point, which would have made things alot easier and I could have had a larger variety of bottles at the back bar as caught by tomyong. Oh well. I do want to make all those changes at some point but these next few weeks are going to be nuts with packing and moving. Also, there was suppose to be a second version of this bar which I never got to complete but had started before the project got canned. I will finish that someday and get it up here for some more C&C. Again, thanks guys.

Re: Sports Bar
Basically the woods are a little too much or the biased presets didn't do much justice.
It's a great scene though, but you could have nail it with the interior preset.

Re: Sports Bar
tough scene... pretty well done.
The floor material is lacking reflections.
There is a lack of shadow, can you tell us what render setting was used here?

Re: Sports Bar
Sorry for the delay response been rather busy of late with packing, etc. I used easy preset 9, F-value of 16, 1.0 Exposure, 1.5 Gamma.
Lights - Track Lights: .01 Power internal (hence why they looked dark), 1.0 Power Point External
Lights - Catcher Lights: Fake Emitter internal, 10.0 Power Spot External
I made most of the changes thanks to the great C&C people offered. Got a better floor texture with a nice soft sheen and a better quality tongue and groove paneling. Still trying to figure out what to do with the actual wood material (darker/lighter?) to get a better contrast so the detail shows better. Bottles have been fixed, pool table replaced (apply a wood texture to it instead of the black plastic?), POS screen brightness fixed, and the place looks a little more active with furniture displacement and beer to go around for all. Still trying to decide if I should put people in there.... More C&C welcomed. Redone with easy preset 9 and adjusted lighting values.

Re: Sports Bar
getting better!
I would think many clients would be happy with that...
I think the wood materials are lacking reflection... I would try something shinier... if you like the floor, then leave it as-is... but the wood on tables/chairs/columns seems to lack something.
I made same mistake many times on interiors.
is that pool table standard height?

Re: Sports Bar
Thanks Fletch. I think I actually found a solution to the primary wood material issue. I'm currently reworking it with a little bit of warmth so I have a better contrast with the tongue and groove paneling, and it tends to bring out more of the details. I think the floor now compliments the paneling with the new contrast. I will try adding a little shimmer to the tables and chairs. The version I did before my first posting of this project on the forums had way too much shimmer for all the wood. It was so bad that the room looked like it was all made of plastic. Concerning the pool table... to be honest I threw it in there and never checked the height. Some modification may be in order since it does seem a little short. Perhaps it's meant for midgets? I will repost soon.
Re: Sports Bar
I hope you don't mind...but I did a quick photoshop on your image.
Image seemed fine to me, although its very dark. seems quite oppressive and dingy with all the dark wood. highlights were lost i think. so i just lifted the light using levels and brightened roof a little bit. also added small vignette and desaturated a small amount.
hope you like. i think it solved your wood issue....you can see better contrast and colour now.
also added a deeper version with some glow.
