Some Medieval stuff...

Post by Gaieus » Tue Jun 08, 2010 6:09 am

I rarely post here (or in any gallery forum as a matter of fact).

Here is a new WIP I am currently working on however. It will never win a rendering award (it's not even the aim actually) but I though it might be a bit interesting.

Some materials and especially the trees will definitely need some attention and of course, some things (like grass) added here and there. That is why it's still a WIP of course.

A whole bunch of things are only "materials" - like the fence or the barn/stable in the background so they will never look really realistic but the whole project won't allow much more attention to details (especially that in a much bigger project I will have to redo them anyway so why waste time and energy now...)

Very nice one again Gaieus, nice to see it progress from what you posted at SCF earlier. Looking forward to the next one :^:

Really nice, Gai... :^:
You seem to have an issue with the grass in front of the house...
Also... The sky seem out of scale or something... /:
But I'm sure looking forward to see next renders... ;)

Thanks guys, really...

Yes, the grass is just some "marking" that there will be grass (It's a simple array of a component at the moment). The sky may be a hemispherical sky set to spherical? I only wanted to add something (did not carefully select something nice actually).

Since the two archaeologists (one who excavated but specialized in Roman age and the one who never saw the excavation but specialize in Medieval age) are still unsure about some relevant stuff, I still have time to tweak things before the project finishes.

Main point that I have already issued the bill and the museum accepted it just as if the project is "finished" so I will get paid this week (some € 500+ / $ 600+) leaving the debate to the two guys. What they are mainly talking about cannot be seen anyway as it is the cellar underground.
:D
(Many of the stuff is simply 3D Warehouse things  )

Hey Gai,

i really like it!

I think the fence is good just good as it is. I know it's "just" a texture but it works fine if you don't do detail render on it.
The fachwerk and the white render is really nice too! Not to mention the window!
I would only fix the grass and the exchange the mini pine bec this one has a slight halo.
Maybe a bit less soft shadows would work better too.

Trees well yeah (don't hate them though), maybe if you finished the whole model you can exchange them for 3d ones...
Cheers,

Adam

Done...

Also done...
(Great minds think alike...)
:D

Also added some ivy (this is somewhat "compulsory" nowadays...)
;)

Well, that's Aerilius' "Butzenglas" Kerkythea material he was so kind to share (with a bunch of other stuff) over SCF so I cannot take credit for it (the whole layred and procedural material issue is still above my head although I have been using Kerky for some 3 years now)

Well, this is still just playing around with settings and placements of this kind of stuff but especially that I want to make some animations, too, I will definitely need some 3D stuff...

However at least I lost that big one with that ugly halo from the middle...

Well, this is what I have ATM. I'll try to find something better maybe.

Almost exactly the same image - just finally added a sky (I had problems) and edited the grass texture a little bit.

Grass is a lot better, but I think you sharpened it quite a bit as well, right?
