First ever (basic!) render - critique appreciated

Post by leedeetee » Sat Nov 27, 2010 9:15 pm

Well hello,

Tonight i tried to produce my first ever 'proper' render. Results are below. I used templates to assign twilight materials, and then rendered with medium+. That's literally all i did.

I really want some tips as to how I can improve it. The left hand side of the radio needs bringing to life, as does the wooden table.

If anyone could spare a moment to help a noob, I'd really appreciate it. :)

The above is probably a stupid question. Thank-you for your patience.

Looking great!

First, move the camera closer and then hold shift while zooming out with magnifying glass to widen the camera angle. This should make it a bit more dramatic view.

Next, lighting is very important. And providing something for the objects like glass and metal to reflect.

If you download the How Fast Are You Bauhaus Lamp Model Scene here, you can open that .skp model and see how it is lit.

Then you can delete the lamp and any lights inside of the lamp, and put the radio in its place, and hit render again. This will give you a nice lighting studio.

You can also see this GREAT thread on how to render a product with Twilight (from a beginner's point of view).
If you read through that thread carefully, and try the scenes provided, you will quickly become an advanced Twilight user.
It has the model to download in several places with the photo studio room setup for you for Twilight already. You just delete the product, and insert your Radio.

If you need further assistance, let us know.

Very good for a first crack. The only glaring thing for me is the table material. Find a photo of a bit higher resolution wood pattern and try that out. Also, the stuff Fletch pointed out will help. Keep it up!
