rooms

Post by massimo » Mon Jan 03, 2011 8:34 am

This was inspired by some photos I've made some time ago and in particular by a picture I've seen on a site that Fletch posted here somewhere wich remembered me those photos.
Modeled (with the exception of the curtains) and texured in SU. Only sun+physical sky+sky portals as lighting. Easy 09 90 passes. A little bit of curves & colours correction, vignette and a bit of noise reduction only on the bottom of the curtain in post work. :)

The handle is 10 cm long and the door is 250 cm high. Quite correct I think. ;)

Really nice render, massimo...!! :gj:
However, I have to agree with alvydas that the dimension on the door and door handle seem incorrect...

I'd say that door should be max 210 cm high and app. 90 cm width... ;)

Well Kim I think that in northern Europe it's just like you say, even the ceilings are lower. Here in Italy, especially in the old houses, it's a bit different. I have that door in front of me: width = 98 cm, high = 250 cm, ceiling 350 cm high and the door's handle is 10 cm long. Believe me. :D

My first thought was "that door handle is going to snap" , then I look down and there are lots of posts about the handle

Great shot though.

How think is the door handle? it might be long enough but seems too spindly :geek:

Strange conversation. But in reality it seems strange, if the door height (250 cm), the handle is approximately 119 cm in height (currently 95 to 100 cm) from the floor. For me this is very uncomfortable, even though my height is 190 cm. Ancient Italians were not tall people. By 1900, the average Europeans Height was 160 cm. to me it is a strange decision

Ok, checked all the doors handles (8) in my apartment. From 115 to 117 cm from the floor...Some cm too high the one in the render I have to admit.
@Pdwyer maybe also a bit thin.
Anyway here you have a close up of the accused...

You have to understand guys that doors were used to be made in proportion to ceiling heights. That would apply to the height of the handles as well. This was not unique to Italy only but true to a lot of at least European architecture between 15 and 20th century. I have been in rooms where I felt like kid in terms of height.
As far as handle is concerned original handle would have been probably bigger for that door . It was likely replaced with that one at some point in the past. Saying that you can still buy this small uncomfortable and to a point impraticle handles in UK today.

That's indeed what I meant. ;)
