Hi,

I use GIMP instead of Photoshop to save myself a few quid. Is the above tutorial possibl e to achieve in GIMP? Can anyone assist me?

Sure, you can use Gimp when following the tutorial.
You will need to look up tutorials for Gimp first, however, how to use multiple layers in Gimp with 1 image, and also how to use Mask feature of a layer in Gimp.

This is a very similar method as with Photoshop. If you will not find a solution, I can do a short video tutorial.
