Living room test - Added 2 Pics

Post by tuna57 » Mon Jul 04, 2016 3:01 pm

Another quick model to test and learn Twilight better. Sun settings - Brightness 0.9 , Hazy - 13%, Strength - 4.5 . Lamps have a to scale bulb with point light inside the bulb - 60w incandescent with appropriate RGB value. Rendered on easy 9, exposure 2.8 . Ran 105 passes. Bumped up Temp. in post pro a bit before saving.

Want to go back into model and make a few changes and tweaks. Short list - change the pillows, the 2 button tufts look to much like eyeballs  , different image showing through window (just grabbed first thing I came to in reference pics ). tweak materials on Brutalist wall art, might adjust on the point lights in the lamps.

Added another image. Same basic scene with a few adjustments as follows - changed out the pillows ( yeah .. no more "eyes" staring at me ), Replaced image outside the window with one that I think works much better. Minor adjustment to wall color. Fixed material on wall art ( bump was way to high ). Made the following changes to the light settings -

Sun -Brightness 0.9 , 13% Hazy, Strength 4.0 , Point lights in lamp reduced to 50 watt and adjusted color temp accordingly.

Rendered on easy 9, 125 passes ( 8 threads ), 2.8 exposure

Here's test #3 , A few minor changes. Removed lightbulbs from lamps. Replaced with a point light 1.5 radius reduced to 30w. Bumped sun strength back up to 4.5. Easy9, 75 passes.Think it softened up the light from the lamps some.

Nice light and lamps, lampshade light is great. The light spots on the ceiling are distracting. Is there a way to make them softer?

Really like the carpet and sunlight. Is this using the sun or another lighting method?

Thanks pbacot. Don't disagree with your comment about the lamp light on the ceiling. Have another render of this model that just ran ,going to post a pic. Turned the power on the lamps down some . Not sure if it got me where I'd like. The next step would be to take the point lights out of the lightbulbs and try a larger radius and lower wattage. If I understand all the info I've read increasing the radius should soften the shadows. The light through the window is sun/sky. I give the various settings in the o.p.

Sorry, I just opened and saw the pictures, didn't read the whole post. Also the AO is very effective in this shot.

Background image horizon line does not match scene... so view out of window looks a bit odd.
