Sure, I can understand that. However, a large overhaul of how light data is stored, managing unique and non-unique instances, and disrupting the workflow for the majority of users (who don't need a second layer of differentiation in their instances), that's just not something we are going to do right now.
BTW, along the lines of color temperature and presets, you can set color using Kelvin values in the color popup for lights (it's on the RGB page) and you can also save presets to store light configurations for future use. Not as easy as choosing from a DC attribute but it might be helpful.
