Hi,
Im new at using this rendering software and learning how to use the lighting tools, however even after following step by step instructions on making the lights i just end up with a gradient blue and white screen with a black square in the image somewhere (it renders fine if i dont have any lights put into the render!

any help would be appreciated!

Please look at the video tutorials. There's one specially for lighting.

The model you are lighting may be scaled down from life size, so the added lights may be too strong & washing out the image.

I just had the same problem but I found the solution, the lights have to be added before the walls, floor...etc, it just organisation but it works

That is not correct. Lights can be added at any time during the modeling. In fact, there is absolutely no way to know the difference between a light that was added very early in the modeling process, and one that was added just before the render was started.
