rendering windows

Post by res08a7k » Sat Mar 18, 2017 6:57 pm

While rendering in Sketchup, Do you have tips for rendering houses with glass windows and doors?

Am trying to render the glass so it appears almost totally transparent?
Have tried using a transparent texture on the glass or reducing the % of the opacity, but the light always seems to reflect off.
This is an extreme example. Thanks for the input.

Use the Transparent Grey Glass texture default from SketchUp and apply NO template. It will render automatically as architectural thin glass.

I tried this (see Pic) and looked at this video viewtopic.php?p=32515#p32515
Would like the glass to be much more transparent?
What am I missing?
Thanks, Billy

OK - I figured out what was happening.
For some reason when I clicked on Architectural Glass in the template materials pallet the first time it didn't switch over to the template but after clicking on it several times it started working!
Thanks, Billy

I tried to recreate the settings again today and found that Template/Materials/Glass/Common - does not produce the proper settings?
This was the initial problem from yesterday. I did save the file with the settings.
How do you save the glass settings in the materials browser. It is saving as .skm file? then not able to import.

Is this an issue because I still have SU 2014?

Thanks, Billy

If you are using Twilight V2.5 or later, then you have automatic templates - no need to change anything - do NOT APPLY ANY TEMPLATE to the glass. Simply paint the glass with the Default sketchUp material either blue or grey glass.
Use the Transparent Grey Glass texture default from SketchUp and apply NO template. It will render automatically as architectural thin glass.

It appears my problem has been using glass and not the Architectural Glass/Common Selection!
Then set the Alpha to between 5-10
