Invisible global light source

Hello,

i try to render an interior picture of a church at night. I inserted some spotlights and would like to insert a "fake" background lighting, before designing and inserting the "real" lamps for global illumination. I just want to concentrate on the rest of the interior design before.
Is there a convinient way to add an invisible, global light source? E.g. could be an idea to position some planes with emitter material and make it itself invisible. But i found no way to achieve this.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the video introduction.

To summarize for others, all that is needed is 1.) assign an emitter template material to my fake illumination plane (both sides) 2.) and select it to be invisible.
