Gaining shape --->>> Texturing

Post by Gaieus » Tue Oct 13, 2009 9:24 am

I haven't really worked on anything valuable for quite long... But lately I've been working on and off on this basilica we found last year. Amazingly, during the last couple of days, I have put in some more effort and yes, It's "gaining shape" already.

Some clay renders

And now back to finishing the roof and finally texturing... ;)
(I won't be back before that)

Like the clay renders Csaba!

What year was the basilica built? Romanesque?

No, "real" (late) Roman, from the 4th century. This is the excavation last year:

And this is how it was shot :D

Wow, that makes it an early Christian church right?

Look forward seeing some textured images.

Well, the term "basilica" does not necessarily (and exclusively) refer to a religious building at that time but also big, public halls - just think of the Maxentius Basilica in Rome (Maxentius himself was not even Christian - what's more, he prosecuted them sometimes).

Now we have no evidence so far either pro or contra.

This is however only one "phase" of the (at least) three of the same building - or a series of similarly large buildings of and probably same function (or not?). The digs are still going on (although yesterday cold weather and rain started - until then we could work in shorts :D )

Sort of. My very original profession (apart from being a postman between secondary/high school and university) :D
But I am a lawyer, too. ;)

A little update (I'll have a bit of a job when texturing...) Roofing.

I'll definitely need some interior lights. If I put the "roof tiles" layer on (it is off now), it is very dark inside

Looks like a fascinating project! There is a small church near where I live, and was looking at modeling it... you will laugh when you see how small. :D

Have you tried setting your sky color to medium or light gray for clay renderings?
