Re: Chess anyone?
I have seen similar board before - I want one badly, but the pieces themselves are a bit too alien for me.
of course, it's a good render! I would prefer perhaps more artistic lighting.

Funny the Check board in different altitudes!
Re: Chess anyone?
Really nice Eric.
One crit would be to have the board on something (a table or a floor material). It just seems too dark for a "studio" render.
All in all really nice. The DOF is well controlled and not over done as it seems it typically the case with so many other DOF renders. I also would subdivide the King and queen further, there is a bit of faceting.
Great work.

Thanks a bunch.
Here is another shot. I put the board up on a glass base and lightened the BG up a bit. I also added some extra lighting.

I like it much better!
Re: Chess anyone?
I like this. U need to go to chessboards anonymous!
I would bevel edge a bit (more) as its not too apparent at the moment.
Also how about a lighter base, I think this grey is too dark maybe? I like the subtle red/yellow glow

Thanks.
The glass seemed a bit funky so I tweaked it a bit. I like this one much better.

Hi, Eric.
Why not give Motiva SOAP a shot so you can do infinite fine-tuning of your lights and material colors? You only need N+1 renders for the "GI mode", N being the number of entities you want to be able to change color/brightness in post-production. Sounds pretty easy to do:
