Round corners render effect?
Round corners render effect?
Would it be possible to add a round corners render effect like with MentalRay for Max?
Re: Round corners render effect?
this would be the 'bevel' feature in Kerkythea, I presume, and yes you will likely see this in a future version of Twilight when a more advanced material editor will be developed.
Re: Round corners render effect?
Hi Fletch,
I have never had any success with this feature in Kerky. Does (should) it really work?
BTW sometimes it's still better to model this effect as we may not necessarily need every edge with a certain material rounded/bevelled)

Re: Round corners render effect?
Gaieus, it does work in KT. Just take a simple KT basic primitive, cube, and play with it.
Re: Round corners render effect?
OK, sorry, I should have made it more precise. It did work for me with KT basic primitives but I couldn't get it to work with exported SU models. And "as if..." I'd read later, on the KT Forums, that it indeed doesn't work with SU models (in that case, I guess the exporter also has some limitations with the model).

Re: Round corners render effect?
I believe you have to 'weld' the SU exported model... and it was the welding part that was "wonky" - not to put too fine of a point on it.
Re: Round corners render effect?
If you export as .obj it should work. Not sure if SU2KT got fixed, so that vertex welding is properly done. But if the model is correctly build, KT can "bevel" it just fine. Keep in mind that it's a visual effect, like bump. Geometry is not modified.
Re: Round corners render effect?
Yes, of course, I understand it's a visual effect (although maybe rather comparable to displacement as it looks like geometry is modified not simply shadow effects added like with bumps).
OK, I will play around with welding vertices. In the "WIP Gallery" I posted some clay renders of a project I am working on. Round edges are already a big difference and I guess, when it's also textured, it will looknice with the texture subtly running around on those small but visible round corners.
I'll try to get as much out of this project as I can.
Here is a short video I experimented with (I amplanning to make similar effects in a final video rendered).

Re: Round corners render effect?
I personally would just use the bevel by Fredo - I'm actually falling in love with that plugin/combo with Twilight - it's such a powerful modelling tool! (I've use it for roofs, and everything.)
Re: Round corners render effect?
But does not multiply polys and increase time render?
